Greenery and living plants can bring any home to life. Depending on the style, they provide a sense of color, style, and in some cases an exotic flair. Exotic indoor houseplants produce amazing results and years of pleasure. When choosing them it is important to understand if they will be placed in direct sunlight, a dark room, or a dry environment.

Sago Palms have always been popular. They're not too big and are very slow to grow. The thick and sturdy base makes them seem invincible but the leaves are actually easier to damage. These enjoy a dry and arid climate so extra humidity in the air is not needed. The soil should be kept mostly dry. They also do not have to be re-potted for several years.

ZZ Plants are a great addition to the environment. Too much water can kill this plant. So, for those that are forgetful, these can go a while without being watered and are very forgiving if you forget. It is best to use less water than too much for this plant. They do like low light environments so you can set them pretty much anywhere in an apartment or home.

Zebra Plants green and white striped leaves are beautiful. In the fall they have a stark yellow flower for several weeks. These plants should not be placed in direct sunlight, but they do enjoy lots of light. Since they typically grow in a rain forest, they are used to a deluge of water and then high humidity. You will want to use a pot that allows plenty of drainage holes where the water can sit below the plant for the humidity.

Using the Elephant's ear can enhance the environment. The reason for its common name is based on the shape of the dark green leaf that is shaped like an arrow or elephant's ear. It is also a dark green and silver veined leaf. These particular plants love humidity. The best way to provide this is to mist them daily. The soil should be allowed to nearly dry out in the winter time. Root rot is a problem with these when there is too much water.

Crab Cactus is a low maintenance option. Though this is a cactus, it is tropical in nature and prefers high humidity. In the fall, beautiful flowers will bloom in red, pink, peach, white and orange. The water should be kept moist but not drenched. After it flowers reduces the amount of water until the springtime.

Ponytail Palms are also called the Elephant Foot. They have a woody bulb shaped foot and are native to the desert. They can be watered every few weeks. It thrives in dry air, so there is no need to add humidity to the air. With little need for additional care, this plant makes an easy and exotic addition to any home.

Having plants in the home really makes a difference. The home seems to come to life. Since plants are not always easy to care for, it's important to choose according to your abilities and schedule.
