A Luxury Bel Air Kitchen Design Enhances Your Whole House

By Kimberly Brooks

Most people have to budget carefully when they make major renovations to their homes. They may have to skimp on one portion of the restoration in order to splurge on another. If you live in one of the most exclusive zip codes in the country, you probably don't have the same issues. For you a Bel Air kitchen design may mean a luxurious renovation from the ceiling to the flooring. All you have to do is choose which luxury designs and accessories are right for you.

If you have decided on a complete overhaul of the space, there are essentially three layouts to choose from. The most basic is the galley. You probably won't want this for your main residence, but it might be perfect for a guest cottage makeover. Galleys are kitchens with an aisle enclosed by two walls. They can be efficient, but are not designed for serious cooks or gracious entertaining. You can add modern appliances, custom cabinets, and sleek counter tops to make the room appear more than just utilitarian.

L shaped kitchens are certainly a big step up from the galleys. They are bigger and have space for an upscale island. The area for preparation and cooking is usually angled, which gives designers a lot of opportunities to get creative. There is generally more storage area in the L shaped kitchens.

Probably the most popular layout, and the one that lends itself best to luxury kitchens is the U shape. Here you have three walls that give you plenty of room for cleaning, preparation, cooking, and clean up. There is ample space for a large island with sinks, cooking surfaces, and storage. There are plenty of opportunities to add butler's pantries, wine caves, and bars to adjoining areas.

Modern technology has made today's appliances and accessories smarter and faster than ever. Depending on your culinary requirements, you can choose commercial grade ranges, double and convection ovens, and double or triple sinks. You will probably want a sub-zero refrigerator. You can choose from paneled doors, French doors, or simple stainless double doors. If you want an invisible refrigerator, a manufacturer will be happy to accommodate you.

A nice touch, especially if you are a coffee lover, is installing a coffee bar in a corner of the kitchen. You'll need counter space for your expresso machine, high end coffee pot, pour over tool, and French press. You will also need enough storage to keep the designer coffee beans you collect from all over the world. A cafe' table will give you and your guests a place to savor your second and third cups.

Installing a brick oven is another idea that many, who entertain frequently and have large kitchens, really enjoy. If you love to bake bread, pizza, and rolls, this will be a great addition to your renovation project. The aroma these wood fired ovens give off fill houses with the smells of baking bread.

Kitchens are often the hearts of homes. They should be more than just cooking spaces. The more welcoming the room, the more likely it is to be the place where everyone gathers.
