Ideas For Interior Design For Restaurants

Designing the inside of an eatery can be a challenging task, but it makes all the difference in attracting the right type of customer. How a place looks and feel plays a huge part in the impression it gives and the reviews it gets, not just for the food. These ideas on interior design for restaurants will help restaurant owners to choose the best look for the atmosphere they want to offer.

The first thing that will indicate what type of decor will work inside the chosen location is, of course, what type of food is being served. Decide if the key theme should be based on cultural aspects due to type of cuisine. Alternatively, choose the decor based on the type of customer the food is geared towards, for example teenagers or dining for couples.

For a place that does have a cultural aspect with the cuisine, then it's definitely better to include that in the decor as well. Look at themes specific to the country the food comes from, its history and mythology. Choose key elements from these areas and find new and interesting ways to present them in a modern light.

A space with high ceilings is a real gem to work with. Go all the way with the drama by fitting floor-to-ceiling windows. Chandeliers will exaggerate the grandeur of the space. A sophisticated monochromatic colour scheme with areas of deep tones like burgundy and purple will add a royal feel to the space. Hints of gold will do the same.

In a grand space, decorate the walls with interesting pieces of artwork or sculptures on podiums. These pieces will make great conversation starters for diners as they wait for their food to arrive. Play with proportion by mixing different kinds of furniture such as chaise longues, perhaps in the waiting area, with cushioned seats that have carved wooden armrests. Play with the table size but keep tables solid and sturdy, perhaps with small lamps instead of candles for ambiance.

For a smaller space, mirrors will do wonders to give the feeling of openness. Strategically placed mirrors that reflect the light will have a great impact on the setting, and there won't be much need for any other excessive decor. Consider placing mirrors on the ceiling for an interesting twist.

If your establishment is geared to more traditional meals like high tea, or even unusual interesting dishes, why not be inspired by stories that reflect the same, such as Alice In Wonderland? Use angular shapes and patterns to create optical illusions and be bold and daring with your furniture choices. Reference the tale itself by using huge props as decor, like a pocket watch or maybe a tea pot.

For a restaurant that has more of a chilled vibe, muted colours and dark tones are best. Particularly for an underground artistic crowd, black and white photography on the walls or other interesting modern artwork will add a lot of ambiance. Think about creating a separate space where diners can express themselves while they wait, such as a doodle wall or photography booth.
